Salubong

The word Salubong refers to the act of meeting someone who is arriving. As the word connotes, the celebration is a re-enactment of the first meeting of Jesus Christ and his mother Mary. Salubong is an Easter Sunday pre-dawn ritual that re-enacts the Risen Christ’s meeting with His mother. The participants in the procession are segregated by gender. The men and boys follow the image of Jesus Christ, while the women and girls follow the image of Mary. The procession ends with the two groups meeting in the church, where the Mass is said. An Easter egg hunt for the kids and an Easter fellowship follows at the Filipino Chaplaincy pastoral house where barbeque and Filipino dishes are served. Salubong was initially held at St. Michael’s school grounds but since 2011 the venue is at the Nagle College Hall.
